Absolutely! We can either provide you with a new number, or you can bring your existing number across to us in a process known as “Porting”. Basically we take your number from your existing provider and then turn it in to a VoIP number that gets delivered to you over your internet connection.
You can keep your existing phones if you’d like and simply plug them in to what’s known as an ATA Adapter (Analog Telephone Adapter). Otherwise, you can get a VoIP-specific phone (Ideal for businesses mostly), or you could use a software phone from your PC. You can even have your number go into a VoIP PBX like Asterisk or FreeSWITCH. We won’t discriminate.
You shouldn’t have to. This works because your Phone / Softphone / Smartphone / PBX sitting behind your router initiates the connection to us. Your router should then keep the connection alive.
We utilize ulaw, alaw and g711 codecs which give around 14 hours calling per gigabyte. We don’t do any form of compression at all along the way, giving you the best quality calls possible!
Yes! We recommend you have one of our UFB plans, however we have tested it very successfully over ADSL2 and VDSL2.
If it came from another ISP, then probably not. We’ve found that over 90% of the routers other ISPs provide (even ones that are supposed to be “VoIP friendly”) are terrible and the cause of a whole host of issues. If you’ve got an ISP-provided Netcomm NB-series router, you’re probably in luck. Otherwise, give us a quick call and we’ll point you in the right direction. We recommend the Draytek series of routers for home, small office and larger businesses.
